Sibelius : Symphony 4 - Philharmonia / Ashkenazy *

Ashkenazy achieves great concentration of feeling in this Fourth and his terracing of dynamic contrasts is caught superbly. There is splendid dramaand intensity throughout in this very impressive performance. One is bowled over at first listening, especially in part 4.... (Grammophone).

So horrible to have this trancendent music interrupted by commercials. Disgusting.
I've always been fascinated in this.sublime work by what happens at c. 9:16: Woodwinds... flute, oboe, and clarinet, in unison create the most beautiful, almost unidentifiable timbre as they move up and down the registers where. on or the other dominates slightly... a wonderfully silvery timber in this obligatto line that floats above the strings. Heavenly.
11:05 the voice of hope for humanity piercing through any darkness and despair
I share Birthday with Mahler.
Τέλειο! ⭐️💛👏
Mahler è come Beethoven cento anni dopo immensi capolavori

Lord, save Thy people and bless Thine inheritance.
Lovely music but terrible accompanying pictures!
I liked Emerson, lake ,and Palmer's album of this.
This wonderful piece of music reminds me of the beauty of life and how much I miss it (I've been dead for nearly 8 years)
Thank you for this beautiful video and such peaceful comments.
For me; this (admittedly somewhat melancholy) piece always sets a great ‘chill’ running down my spine and visions of a (mythical but graceful) swan than does even Saint-Saens’ piece (from ‘Carnival of the Animals’). What instrument can more aptly portray this waterbird so deeply inspiring as it has been to humans since time immemorial - than the (somewhat gracefully morose) tones of the cor anglais ?
PS; btw: the vid is truly **out of this world** - literally!
One day i will lead an orchestra playing this piece
I remember back in 2017, i has just moved into my first appartment. It was october and it was dark and rainy outside. My livingroom/bedroom was only lit with candles and i was listening to this song for the very first time while laying on my couch and just taking it in. I really can't explain but i had an almost religious experience while laying there, i just felt so relaxed while listening to this song
Michael Chance singing Purcell back in the late 80s was my first serious introduction to the countertenor voice and repertoire which I have loved ever since. He remains one of the finest exponents of that register, as proved by this excellent performance. As for his voice being mistaken for that of a woman, I used to play some of his recordings to my work colleagues and the vast majority were amazed to discover the singer was very much a man.
Urrraaa viva Russia
The original "first listen to it for the climax then start to appreciate the whole thing."
Thank you so much! So, so beautiful ❤❤❤
Composicion y direccion sublime,paz y relax
This is my #1 PowerPoint presentation.
Sem medo da morte, ao ouvir 5' de Mahler! Vou até o infinito céu!
12:32 14:55
When I heard this Music at the beginning of Visconti's “Death in Venice”, I couldn't believe my ears. I immediately told myself: It's too brilliant and perfect to be the music for a movie. And then I found out that it was a Mahler composition! Music written specifically for films is never so magnificent. And in this case, the Mahlers music is stronger than the whole movie. 😮
Best composer of all time.
Es una pieza sublime, y refleja perfectamente el atormentado carácter que debió sufrir,el autor en determinadas épocas de su vida. Valencia. España
I am just a sometimes funny shy girl. I find this piece of Art ,Captivating and this Music, Simply Motivational. I am very Gracious for your share.
This music reminds me of the suffering of Russia.
14:55 exactly
I think I’d have to name this as the best piece of music ever… Beethoven’s ninth and rhapsody in blue are a close second and third but this is the one!!!
This was the first Overture that My Father explained to me while music was running. I will never forget those 5 years imagine the cannons and the horses... This IS the best Version I have ever Heard ! .---
I'm two but I write better music.
Music holds immense power folks.
Love this music and the movie
"The Afterlife of Billy Fingers" Brought me here. Thank you.
Beautiful music but not aware of the movie. When did the movie come out?
Торжественная увертюра «1812 год», оркестровое произведение русского композитора Петра Ильича Чайковского в память о победе России в Отечественной войне 1812 года. Solemn overture “1812”, an orchestral work by Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky in memory of the Russian victory in the Patriotic War of 1812.
but why u shows pictures of napoleons army entering Moscow when its ringing bell? ITs obviously that ringing bell from church was the sign that Russia won Napoleons Army and entered Paris in 1814, like every video about this composition by Tchaikovsky shows France entering Moscow but actually its not about it
Wonderful arrangement! Is it possible to buy it online for a choir located in Montreal (Canada). Thanks a lot! Comme c'est magnifique!! Superbe arrangement! Est-ce possible de l'acheter en ligne? Je chante dans un choeur mixte à Montréal, Québec (Canada). Merci!
Notice that the second fugue theme at 6:54 is simply six ascending notes on the minor scale. This is actually a lookback by Bach to the pre-Baroque eras. It's a form called the hexachord, and was used in the late Medieval period, mostly in chant. What Bach does here is amazing, and might be the first time the hexachord form was used in a fugue.
Imagine hearing this in your head and then having the wherewithal to transcribe it into reality. Amazing stuff ⚡️
Que belle
12 minutes of beauty
Like many I came to know Mahler and this piece through the Famous Visconti film. Death in Venice. Back when I was so young in the 1970s. Now retired I am still hooked on his genius. In my book his symphony No 2 'Resurrection' is one meaning of life. The only other being the third movement of Beethoven's 9th. Its a precious secret coming as it does before the more famous Ode to Joy last movement
What an entry @ 1.42. Powerful, majestic and regal.
I think these are great no matter how old they are
I love this music
